Curriculum Vitae

Dénise Beck was honoured with the Inga Nielsen-Prize 2011 and the Talent Award 2011 of the Danish Radio; just recently, she also was named Sonning Laureate 2012. But then again, the singer has a tradition of receiving awards and honours. Already in 2004, she was awarded the 1st prize in the Danish competition „Young Singers“ in 2004, just before she was accepted at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where she studied with Professor Franz Lukasovsky, Sir Charles Spencer and Istvan Bonyhadi.

While finishing her studies in the Lied-class in Vienna, she was accepted at the Royal Academy of Music in Copenhagen in their postgraduate soloist program. Here she studied with Professor Kirsten Buhl-Møller, Ulrich Stærk, Mikael Eliasen and Bo Skovhus.

In 2008, also during her studies, she made her debut at the Volksoper Wien as Komtesse Anastasia in „Die Csardasfürstin“ by Kalman. Shortly after that, she sang the role of Blondchen (“Abduction from the seraglio”) at the Salzburger Landestheater.

In 2010 she was awarded with the 2nd prize for her interpretation of Gilda’s Aria from Rigoletto in theRichard Tauber competition in London.

On stage she has performed the roles of Carolina (Il matrimonio Segreto), Blondchen (The Abduction from the Seraglio), Sophie Scholl (White Rose), Morgana (Alcina), Frasquita (Carmen), Annina (La Traviata), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Suzon (Fête Galante by Paul Schierbeck) and Alena ( the mainrole of Orpheus 68 – a new opera composed by Paul Schwarz from New York).

Apart from opera, Dénise Beck is a renowned concert singer. She has performed as a soloist in the C-minor mass by Mozart, Carmina Burana by Carl Orff, Beethovens 9th Symphony, Gloria by Poulenc, the B-minor mass by Bach, and many other masses and cantatas by Haydn, Mozart and Haendel. She has performed in concert with the „Johann Strauss Ensemble of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra“, with whom she recorded a CD in 2012.

Dénise Beck is also an acknowledged Lied performer. She gave a recital in Bangkok in honor of his Majesty the King of Thailand´s Anniversary in 2006. She also sang recitals in Duesseldorf, Germany and Montepulciano, Italy which were broadcasted on NDR (Norddeutscher Rundfunk, the main Radio station in Northern Germany).

Since Dénise Beck started as a classical singer, she has performed with different early baroque ensembles; The Heinrich Schütz ensemble in Denmark, and Prof. Ingomar Rainer´s early Baroque Ensemble with whom she had a concert in the famous Musikverein Wien.

Another interest of hers is learning and performing contemporary music (operas, masses, lieder...). She has thus performed at the Tiroler Festspiele in a new mass by Christoph Cech, which was broadcast on Ö1 (The National Classical Radio in Austria). She also performed at the Konzerthaus Wien with two new songs for soprano and orchestra by the Swedish composer Fredrik Bobr.

Dénise Beck has performed on several stages such as Volksoper Wien, Salzburger Landestheater, Royal Opera Copenhagen, Opera Klosterneuburg Vienna, Konzerthaus Wien, Musikverein Wien, Wigmore Hall London, Teatro Nacional de Brasil, OperaCity Tokyo, Bunkan Kaikan Tokyo, den nye opera Bergen Norway, Opera Hedeland Denmark, Musikhuset Aarhus Denmark, Den Fynske Opera Denmark.

In 2012/13 Denise will sing Papagena in the renowned Bregenz Festival, and Mahler’s 4th Symphony with Michael Schoenwandt and the Danish Radio Symphony. In 2014, she will appear in a series of recitals with Hugo Wolf’s “Italienisches Liederbuch” together with Bo Skovhus.
